Tips on growing backyard tomatoes?
"Like so many of us, I am interested in a backyard garden. I tried tomatoes once but they were infested with all these little bugs. Any tips on natural pesticides and growing techniques would be very much appreciated. If you know any good websites that would be great too. Thanks.
"
try some companion planting. I understand that marigolds are somewhat successful at keeping away pests, They have a strong odor and are said to repell harmful insects. I always plant a few marigolds in with my tomatoes. If you can find them at a local nursery, lady bugs eat many of the harmful pests in your garden. get a container of them and let them loose in your garden. They love aphids and will eat them all up in a hurry.
They also sell special oil/soap solutions you can spray on the plants to kill the bugs without being poisonous to you or the plants. the oil sticks to the plant and suffocates the bugs. The soap does something to kill them, I’m not sure what.
I am guess all the little bugs were aphids. They are a common problem when growing tomatoes. Try the lady bugs first. It’s natural and won’t harm anything.
