What can I legally do when a reputable landscaping company butchers a contracted job?
"Three non-english speaking employees,(I do not speak spanish) were sent to thin and cut deadwood from 4 large trees. After napping for 1/2 of the 4 hours they were here (a neighbor called to ask who the sleeping people were), we have checked their work to find that they have ‘butchered’ our trees. Also no planting,(17 other trees), took place. The 1 day job was supposed to be completed today, (day 2), but no-one has been and we have only been able to reach answerphones.
B.T.W. I am not looking to gain from this situation. I am planning on not letting 3 workers who have already done damage back on my property without first talking to the companies qualified arborist. I have contacted the local Arbor foundation for info on how they were cut and by going on their advice am sure the trees have been ‘butchered’. I am just wanting to know if acting in this way will cost me more than I am already out, i.e. having to pay the balance on a job that I stop.

Take pictures of the work done. Video is preferred. Are the unplanted trees on your property? Film them also. Try a visit to the company’s office.
If you cannot get them in motion, take your video evidence and the contract and a written and signed statement from your neighbor who saw them sleeping, and go visit a lawyer.
Be prepared to hire another company to do the work. I hope things work out for you.
