Any ideas on house ideas?

"My dad has a piece of land measuring 120ft bu 80 ft . Its like a big rectangle with the long side facing south west . My dad is worried about the sun factor , he wants the area to be fully utilise and with a small garden in side . We live in Malaysia , so weather is tropical , so when its warm , its kinda uncomfortable . Anyone have ideas on what shape should the house be? My dad wants it to be victorian style . I am against it but he won’t listen to me till I can come up with a plan better than his . Anyone can give me ideas on how to design a house which can get minimum sunlight especially with nothing in front to shade it ? I also am trying to make it eco-friendly with minimum need to use air conditioning . any examples for the house is also appreciated .

At first I was going to suggest a “shotgun” house. Popular in Charleston SC. But your long side would face the sun. So now I’m thinking of a house that’s tall on the north side who’s roof slants south. A metal roof with good insulation would be good for this purpose. Alternatively in the SE US there was a kind of house called a “cracker” house (see link). In your case it would be long with deep porches on the south and north (optional) sides. Deep porches were the South’s answer to passive solar design. In the winter when the sun is low it can heat the house a little and in the summer when it’s high your house is shaded.

You should also check out Malay vernacular design(see link). Those who had to live w/o AC sometimes developed the best designs for their climate.
I live in a similar climate to yours, and we’re getting ready to build too. My husband is an architect and we care about the environment:)
